Guest post: My heart belongs to Food Gatherers
February 8, 2012
Words are indescribable as to how much Food Gatherers means to me. My life has been enhanced and improved because of Food Gatherers. I would like to appreciate Eileen Spring (CEO), Missy Orge, Paula Dana, Scott, Chef Ellen Moloney and many others for being such a positive influence in my life, and for such an exceptional and tremendous difference mentally, financially, and physically.

"My heart belongs to Food Gatherers," says Jua'Tyena Lyons. Here she is, preparing heart-shaped chicken at the Community Kitchen.
Being an intern [at the Community Kitchen] for a year and a half has been a definite learning experience. The internship brought out a lot of strengths I didn’t know I had, and has improved weaknesses. I have enhanced customer service skills, I have gained a lot of cooking techniques, and I have also improved management abilities, leadership skills, communication skills, social skills, listening skills and interpersonal skills.
Food Gatherers is such a blessing not only to me, but to the lives of so many young people that are dealing with peer pressure, parental problems, neglect, abuse, abandonment, oppression and depression, alcohol and drug abuse, worries and anxieties – and the list goes on. But there is a resolution: Food Gatherers is is making the difference and change that is needed in our community today. Thank you FG!
Yours Truly,
Ms. Jua’Tyena Lyons
Jua’Tyena Lyons is a graduate of the Food Gatherers Community Kitchen Job Training Program. After her graduation, she worked as an intern for a year and a half at the Community Kitchen, located in the Robert J. Delonis Center in downtown Ann Arbor.
